CapMap

The Issue

Getting to travel, especially these days, is something to look forward to BUT we bet you don't look forward to:

What

CapMap is your all-in-one travel app to ease your mind on planning for your adventures while documenting memories you’ve made in a seamless, beautiful way.
From
before you’ve even packed your bags to waiting at the airport to your itinerary plans and even after, CapMap will be your favorite app to organize and share your stories on-the-go.
CapMap features:

Challenges & Learnings

Before even landing on our idea for CapMap, we originally had a very different starting project involving a portable charging hub device including retractable cords. After our initial presentation's critiques, we took our project back to the drawing board with a more open brainstorming session, landing on collective pain points we found within the topic of traveling - and the rest is history! This reinforced the concept that typically, one of the hardest things is mustering up the activation energy to make a pivot. From there, that change usually ends up changing your course for the better and processes begin working much more smoothly.

Additional challenges we ran into stemmed from our diversity in majors, and therefore different schedules & skillsets. With dual majors and student athletes in our mix, schedules often misaligned, however we persevered with a collaborative organized schedule & open communication. Also, with varying skillsets from our very different majors, using Framer (digital prototyping software) involved a learning curve for all of us but at various levels. We worked through this through splitting up our work into more manageable individual portions, honing in on each others' unique soft skills that could connect well to our final deliverables, and always being open to helping each other out in an capacity we could.

How

Within a team of 4, made up of various majors & backgrounds (2 dual Management/Design, 1 Electrical Engineer, 1 Management/Student Athlete), we ideated, developed, and built out our business plan, app concept, and photobook mock-up through various benchmarks including:

The Inspiration

We wondered why there are so many prominent travel-related apps, but each targeted at different aspects of travel. As we brainstormed, we began to break down the traveling process (along with its pain points) into 3 stages:

Taking inspiration from Yelp (place sharing), Spotify Wrapped (sharing format), Medium (aesthetic publishing platform)
, and more, we decided to create an app that could act as a hub for your travel needs, especially with a focus on creating & keeping memories for life in a beautiful, seamless way.

The Final Prototypes

•  The disjointed amount of apps and tabs you have open when planning your itinerary
•  The confusion & anxiety that already comes with planning your airport experience alone
•  Tons of jumbled images & videos from your trip, only to never see past your phone gallery again

•  A convenient community library of travel plans
•  Activity itineraries to choose from based on your interests & location
•  Social-media shareable documentation of your trip via aesthetic templates
•  An interactive scratch map to mark off destinations you have visited
•  An effortless process to transform your memories into photobook keepsakes

•  Pre-trip planning (transportation, itinerary, etc.)
•  During-the-trip experience (airport maps, gate times, pre-TSA & post-TSA vendors, etc.)
•  Post-trip memory documenting & sharing (collages, journal entries, photos, social media sharing, etc.)
