Up & At’em In the Morning: Buns!

Do you ever just wake up on a Sunday morning and the idea of baking or cooking a specific food is on your mind? No? Just me? Alrighty then.

On one Sunday morning that was exactly what happened, I desperately wanted to make morning buns. I had watched a video on how to make them on Bon Appetit’s Youtube page. They call it their more sophisticated cinnamon bun: kind of like the more posh, prim, and proper sister (ooh look at that alliteration amirite :^D).

I see weekend mornings as the perfect opportunity for me to try out a new recipe, no matter how simple or complicated it is. Some weekends end up becoming full days of baking and waiting for things to rise, ferment, etc. while other days are just one quick recipe that’s been sitting in the back of my head for the whole week, untouched because of school, club, and life in general really.

These buns turned out to be pretty picture-perfect, but in a rustic type of way, you know with the au natural flaws of baking – but that’s what the beauty of baking really is! These were best if eaten still warm if you want that gooey, caramel-like sugary filling that was able to melt in the oven separately from the baked dough. A word of advice if you plan on trying out this recipe, and with any baked good really, is to keep an eye on the temperature of your oven! Everyone’s oven works differently, and I personally have an extremely finnicky one that likes to over heat from the temperature I had set it to! Remember this, because no one likes a dry (or burnt, we’ve all been there unfortunately) bun!

So enough of my rambling, and here are the ingredients, all credits and thanks to Bon Appetit Magazine!
